Romancing Our Gems | Agate

Romancing Our Gems | Agate

Agate is a banded form of finely-grained, microcrystalline quartz. The lovely color patterns and banding make this alluring gemstone unique. Each agate has a distinctive style and pattern, and each agate comes from its own habitat. No two types of agate are the same.

White Orchid Studio’s necklace “Looking East” celebrates an agate originating in Tibet. The gem is incredibly beautiful when polished into the rondelles you see in our necklace "Looking East."

The agate pictured above is reputed to heal the mind, body and spirit. It is also called a Tibetan Dzi (pronounced as zeeee…). The word, dzi, might translate into a source of “splendor, brightness and shine.”
